Obtaining temporary residence
The temporary residence is the first mandatory step towards permanent residence in Paraguay.
It allows you to live in Paraguay (or not) for two years without restrictions, except that you shall not to stay out of the country for more than 12 consecutive months.
The procedure for obtaining this permit is precise and well-designed.
Initial documents shall be gathered in your country of origin and others in Paraguay. Once in Paraguay, this can be achieved in a few days, IF you know how.
Once the complete file is submitted, the answer arrives within three months. The residence permit can then be collected.
Yes, in theory, you could do the procedure yourself without our assistance.

However, in practice, the procedure requires gathering many documents in your country and Paraguay. On each document, the information must be correct and consistent, without ANY discrepancy.
Otherwise, the delays pile up and you will need to stay here several weeks to assemble the file. (Even go back to your country, if the problems are on the initial documents.)
Note on the residence permit for investors
This permit is separate from the other residence permits. It is handled by SUACE and not the Migraciones department. The applicable law is different.
It gives direct access to permanent residence.
BUT, there are several conditions that make it almost impossible for small investors to implement, such as:
- the establishemnt of a company (See the FAQ on this subject.)
- an investment of 70 000 USD
- the hiring of 5 native Paraguayan employees.
It is more designed for a foreign shareholder of an already established company and who wants to take active role in the management in Paraguay.
